ESRC RESEARCH ON DEVOLUTION AND CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGE
I am writing to let you know that the second call for proposals for the
ESRC Research Programme on Devolution and Constitutional Change has just
been announced. The revised specification can be viewed and downloaded at
http://www.esrc.ac.uk/devphase2.htm
We expect to fund around 15 projects to a value of around £1.6 million.
There are three programme themes: nationalism and national identity;
governance and the constitution; and economic and social policy –
competition or cooperation? The second phase specification emphasises inter
alia the need for research on social and economic policy questions, the
English regions, party and representative politics, changing identity
structures across the UK, and the particular institutional arrangements in
Northern Ireland. Applications involving historical depth, sociological
analysis and the economic dimension of devolution are encouraged.
The competition will be in two stages, with the first round requiring
outline proposals only. These need to be submitted by 31 January. Fuller
details on the submission process can be found in the specification
document.
I would be very pleased to discuss outline project ideas with potential
applicants. If you, or any of your colleagues are thinking of submitting,
or might be interested in knowing more, please do not hesitate to get in
touch on [log in to unmask]
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours truly,
Charlie Jeffery
