context and to relate ideas to real user needs. This is an opportunity to
think about what the future library and the scholar's information space
will look like.

Sessions will include:
An introduction to agents and a look to the future
Practical examples of agents and discussion
Local research such as Query in Context
A look at the MALIBU search engine (Global Information Gathering Agent
GIGA) and the ideas behind it
Speakers will include:
Professor Wendy Hall and Professor David De Roure of Southampton's
Intelligence, Agents, Multimedia Group
MALIBU (MAnaging the hybrid LIbrary for the Benefit of Users) is an eLib
phase 3 hybrid library project, and one of its remits is dissemination of
ideas, strategies and models of digital and hybrid library development.
This is one of a series of workshops designed to introduce librarians,
archivists, academics, computer scientists and computer services personnel
to a range of current issues in digital library development.
There is no charge for the workshop.
Lunch will not be provided but there are several places to eat nearby on
campus.
