The following position may be of interest to list members. While the

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) seeks to fill a
senior position as a joint appointment between its Honors College and
an academic department. The position will begin in the Fall, 2001.
UMBC is a public research university located on the southwestern
edge
of Baltimore an enrolls 9000 undergraduate and 1400 graduate
students.
Although specializing in education and research in the sciences and
technology, UMBC boasts outstanding liberal arts and professional
programs and a commitment to providing its baccalaureate students
with
a strong liberal arts education.
The Honors College seeks to create an atmosphere of a small liberal
arts college within the context of the advantages offered by a
research university. It is highly selective and provides an enriched
liberal arts experience for students who desire exceptional
intellectual stimulation and challenge. Limited to 500 students, the
College enrolls approximately 125 new freshmen each Fall. Students
take special Honors courses, interact with visiting scholars, pursue
internships and study abroad, and participate in a year-round series
of special cultural events. Intensive advisement by and interaction
with the College staff allow each student to receive individual
attention designed to foster intellectual development.
The successful candidate will have the doctoral degree and a record of
scholarship, teaching, and service commensurate with the rank of
Professor or Associate Professor with tenure and will display broad
intellectual interests. An interdisciplinary perspective on learning
and the ability to work with students of widely varying interests are
required.
