>I fail to see how only training the pelvic floor, MF and TA is adequate
to stabilise the SIJ <
Thought we were talking about _post partum_ symphysis pubis
diastasis.
>Reality is that all muscles attaching to the sacrum and ilium are
playing a stabilising role in certain movements, including the obliques,
erector spinae, gluts, adductors, hamstrings etc.<
_I agree_, but first, for the Symphysis Pubis Diastasis you need
to make sure that they can do an isolated Pelvic Floor
contraction. Many think they are using PF when they are ONLY
using gluts.
I have checked this by vaginal examination, {being an
obs/gyn/continence physio}
When a true PF contraction is present _then_ I include the
obliques and all the rest to get a good stabilisation, but until
you have experienced the pain of a SPD, the grating of the joint
and dealing with a new baby those other exercises can _not_ be
contemplated.
It is difficult for those with an intact PF to understand how
little the weak PF will contract if it is trained with the
gluts.
