A friend of mine is living in a house which was originally part of a
Victorian mental institution. In the grounds of the house are
several unusual water features, including a large tank, and the
remains of several bridges, and possibly a fountain.
She would like to reconstruct the features as closely as possible to
their original form, but is having little success in finding any
documentation about their design. She has consulted some local
records, including the Suffolk county archives, without any great
success.
I work in the US, so I am less familiar with UK documentation. Is
there a UK equivalent of the Sanborn Insurance Company plans which
cover many institutional buildings in the US? Would there have been
plans submitted to any local government body when the water features
were built?
Can anyone suggest where she might direct further research
enquiries?
