HERON Project: Liaison Officer
The HERON Project is run by the University of Stirling, in partnership with
Napier and South Bank Universities, and Blackwell Retail Ltd. It provides a
copyright clearance and digitisation service for Universities and Colleges
in the UK and is developing a national database and resource bank which will
widen access to course materials and improve the quality of learning
throughout higher education. Funding for this project has been provided
jointly through a major grant under the Electronic Libraries programme and
from HERON's commercial partner, Blackwells.
A vacancy has arisen for a Liaison Officer for the HERON Project. The
Liaison Officer will be responsible for identifying the needs of both
potential and existing subscribers to the HERON service, particularly of
academic staff and librarians, and for providing support for both existing
and would be users. Vigorous promotion of the service within HEIs will be a
major responsibility.
You must have excellent communication and presentation skills, and be both a
good team player and able to work on your own. You must also be able to work
flexibly in support of project goals and have experience of working in
higher education. Good IT skills are also necessary.
Informal enquiries may be directed to Carolyn Rowlinson (tel: 01786 467228)
or Sally Curry (tel: 01786 466616).
Salary will be within the Administrative, Library and Computer Staff Salary
scale 2 (£19,482 - £25,213 per annum). The appointment will be until 31 July
2001 in the first instance. This post would ideally be based at either
University of Stirling or at South Bank University, London. But for the
right candidate, who is prepared to travel to Stirling on a regular basis, a
significant proportion of the work could be done from home.
