PRESS RELEASE: 15/11/00
Leading literacy website launches UK research index
The National Literacy Trust has expanded its highly
regarded website with an index of researchers and ongoing
literacy research projects. The new searchable facility is
available on a free access basis at the Trust's website
(www.literacytrust.org.uk).
"This new search facility is a valuable new resource for
people working in the field of literacy research or for
teachers and students who want to find out more about the
latest
literacy research. It is the first time that information
about UK researchers, ongoing research and research
findings has been brought together and made easily
accessible," said Neil McClelland, Director of the National
Literacy Trust. The Trust feels this will strengthen its
website which the Guardian has called "a source of links
and authoritative research on literacy".
Dr. Keith Topping of the University of Dundee, a leading
authority on literacy, has said: "This is an enormously
valuable resource in raising standards of achievement and
promoting
social inclusion. The Index will help communication between
researchers and thereby improve cost-effectiveness. Even
more importantly, it will enable practitioners to keep
up-to-date with high quality evidence-based practice and
current developments."
The new search facility includes the following categories
of information:
Index of Literacy Researchers, a 'who's who in literacy,'
offers profiles of researchers, including their research
interests, contact details, publications and previous
research projects.
Ongoing Research brings together abstracts of current
research projects and is the most comprehensive collection
of information on literacy research available on the
Internet. Literacy Findings Database complements Ongoing
Research by making available details of published findings.
Researchers who would like to make their research available
on the Trust's website should contact Robin Close at
