This book by anthropologist Baumann deals exclusively with Southall,
London's South Asian-dominated suburb, and the different constructions of
'community' between overlappping cultural and ethnic groups there. His
strategy was basically to live in central Southall while lecturing at Brunel
University for 6 years. I think it is really good - but I used to live there
too!
