OBJECTIVES
The International Cultural Heritage Informatics Meeting (ICHIM)
is, traditionally, the best international forum in which to examine
the relationships between Technology and Cultural Heritage. ICHIM 2001
has the theme Cultural Heritage and Technologies in the Third
Millennium. This choice emphasizes the interplay between innovative
technologies and their applications to Cultural Heritage. This
intersection should be examined with a specific attention to the
evolution of Cultural Heritage Institutions, whose new forms are
determined by the combined impact of innovative technologies and the
changing social expectations of their role.
ICHIM has been held every two years since 1991, alternately in
North America and Europe. ICHIM 1997 was held in Paris (at the Louvre
museum), and ICHIM 1999 in Washington D.C. ICHIM 2001 will be held
at the Politecnico di Milano, where we expect at least 500
specialists, from museums, cultural organizations, universities, research
institutes, technology companies and organizations. Blending different
areas of expertise and approaches is the trademark of ICHIM, and we
encourage broad participation.

AREAS of INTEREST
Cultural Heritage and Technologies in the Third Millennium is the
overall theme for ICHIM 2001. Submissions should address technical,
cultural, social, organizational, or economic issues. Five main areas
have been identified:
         * Technology-based communication of Cultural Heritage
         * Changing organizational paradigms, enabled or enhanced by technology
         * Innovative Technology for Cultural Heritage Documentation
         * Applications of Innovative Technology within Cultural
Heritage Organizations
         * Technology Enabled Services for Cultural Heritage
