Dear Listeners,
The UK & Ireland Soundscape Community (UKISC) is establishing itself as an
association of individuals, local groups and organisations within the United
Kingdom and Ireland who are concerned with all aspects of sound in its
relationship to the environment (ie. soundscape). The UKISC is affiliated to
the World Forum for Acoustic Ecology (WFAE) - see URL below.

The following information relates to membership of the UK & Ireland
Soundscape Community (UKISC) for the period of January to December
2001. It is relevant to current members or anyone interested in joining.
The UKISC has had a steady increase in its membership since its inception
last summer. Individuals and organisations have been joining at different
times throughout this period, and we thank them for their support. In order
to simplify the UKISC membership process next year and to bring it into line
with that of the WFAE, membership for 2001 will run from January to
December.
To simplify this process for existing members and anyone wanting to join
this year, the UKISC management committee have agreed the following:
*Existing UKISC members or new UKISC members joining before 31 December 2000
will receive membership up until 31 December 2001. This benefits early
members and does not require us calculating part fees. You will not be asked
to renew your membership until January 2002! So, if you are thinking of
joining the UKISC and the WFAE do it soon (details below). We cannot ensure
that membership fees will remain the same for next year - there is likely to
be a small increase due to publishing and distribution costs of UKISC and
WFAE Journals.
The first issues of the journals 'Earshot' and 'Soundscape' are still
available. The second issue of 'Earshot' is scheduled for February to
coincide with 'Sound Practice: the 1st UKISC conference on sound, culture
and environments'.
