Social Welfare Evaluation: What role is there for economics?
As part of a Joseph Rowntree Foundation sponsored project at the London
School of Economics, a new network promoting inter disciplinary
collaboration and discussion on the use of economics in all areas of social
welfare evaluation is being established. This will be launched with a one
day workshop, at the London School of Economics on Wednesday 13th December.
The workshop will explore barriers, challenges and opportunities in the
theoretical and practical use of economic evaluation within social welfare
evaluations.
Sessions will include a discussion of the aims and objectives of research
funders and end users in evaluation, conceptual and practical challenges to
the integration of economic methods into evaluation,
ways of building bridges between economists and other disciplines involved
in the evaluation process, as well as presentations of current social
welfare evaluation initiatives.
Speakers will include Alan Barr Scottish Community Development Centre,
Norman Glass National Centre for Social Research, Ann Netten Personal Social
Services Research Unit, University of Kent, Tim Newburn Department of Social
Work, Goldsmith's College University of London
and Tom Sefton Centre for Analysis of Social Exclusion, London School of
Economics.
A limited number of travel bursaries for students undertaking higher
research/taught courses in the UK will be available on a first come first
serve basis.
There is no charge for this event and lunch will be provided, but due to
limited space attendance at the workshop is strictly by RSVP only.
Please contact me to reserve a place and/or for further information on the
event and traval bursaries.
