Description:
This collection of essays Reality and Humean Supervenience confronts
the reader with central aspects in the philosophy of David Lewis, one
of
the major contributors today to the philosophy of physicalism. Unified
recently by his thesis of Humean supervenience: * all that is true
about our world supervenes on the spatiotemporal distribution of local
qualities. Lewis's work in ontology and metaphysics, logic,
probability, philosophy of mind and language heads towards an unique
and systematic foundation of modern physicalism. Including also an
useful general introduction into Lewis' philosophy the
book contains contributions by well known American, Australian and
European philosophers, that address major topics in Lewis' theory of
modality (Part I: Modal Realism), his account of natural laws and
causality (Part II: Physicalism, Causation and Conditionals) as well
as his physicalist-reductionist stance towards mental phenomena (Part
III: Reduction of Mind).
