Testing his new search engine, Peter typed in 'Kipling' and found a host of
entries, among them Kipling concordance: address
http://www.concordance.com/kipling.htm. This is part of a concordance to
700 famous books copyrighted 1998 to William A. Williams, Jr. We tested
it with several entries. Though it has a category 'Complete Works', this
only includes some of the famous, and mainly early work. It successfully
located 'veritable King' in 'The Man who would be King'; 'Seonee' as a
chapter heading in The Light that Failed; 'Seeonee' (with four e's) in
various bits of The Jungle Book; and 'Mississip' [sic] in 'The Ballad of
Fisher's Boarding House.' It failed on 'jhampanies' in 'The Phantom
Rickshaw (though that is one of the titles listed: perhaps it's spelt
differently in Mr Williams's copy); 'way-waste' in 'They' and 'The Prophet
and the Country'. I also tried it with a query just received from Mike
Smith: 'the embalming of a race': no luck there.
So it works well for some things, but I can't see it taking the
place of our mailbase for a long time yet - if ever! Regards to all, Lisa
Lewis
