Subject: A question about Kipling
I am a social studies teacher from Lancaster, Pennsylvania (USA)
and I have a question concerning two lines from "The White Man's Burden"
The last two lines in the fifth stanza : " Why brought ye us from bondage,
" Our loved Egyptian night?"
>From what is Mr. Kipling quoting?
I thought it may be biblical, but I can't find it .
I have asked my colleagues and searched
for an answer in various sources with no success.
Can you, or some society member, shed any light my little concern ?
Thank you,
Bryan R. Hynes
