This is a problem I have all the time on our system (not Exegesis) due to the hierarchical nature of our recording and numbering. Each record gets its own number and therefore will print out as a complete record in itself with five sheets of paper! Not good when the entry often does not have its own bibliography and you have to manually look back up the numbers to find the parent with the references. It also means the entry for a single element will often not be a great deal of use on its own and you need the parent to provide a context.
There is no way round it that I can see and the problem seems to boil down to that of staff time to answer the query. These types of queries tend to be from students and researchers who rarely feed back info to the SMR, nor are they doing anything that is threatening the archaeological resource in any way. In short, the queries are time-consuming but of little importance and we have made the decision not to deal with them for the forseeable future and thereby hopefully free up some of my time... Some hope!
