Deutsch und türkisch leben.
Bild und Selbstbild der türkischen Minderheit in Deutschland
Berne/Berlin/Frankfurt-Main/New York: Peter Lang, November 2000,
pp. 239
Volumne 4 of German Linguistic and Cultural Studies.
General Editor: Rolf Peter Lutzeier
ISBN 3-906763-97-8 £ 25.00
The book is based on a series of interviews conducted by the author
in 1999 with residents of the German town of Essen who were
Turkish by nationality or culture. Some held a German passport,
others did not but all regarded their Turkish origins as a distinctive
aspect of their identity. The interviewees included individuals who
had arrived in Germany in the course of labour recruitment and also
second generation younger people, some of whom had been born
and educated in Germany, others had moved there as children or
adolescents. Deutsch und türkisch leben is written in German.
