Dear list members,
The Mailbase service which provides electronic discussion list management
for the academic community is changing on 27th November 2000. For most of
you, the only effect will be a change in the email address of the mailing
list.
The body which funds the provision of information systems for the UK higher
and further education and research community has awarded the contract to
provide the National Academic Mailing List Service to the Council for the
Central Laboratories of the Research Councils (CCLRC). Unfortunately, the
name Mailbase will be retained by the University of Newcastle (the current
Mailbase service provider), so the new service will have a new name:
JISCmail.
The service will be based upon the well known LISTSERV software. This will
result in some changes to the user interface. Details of the differences
and the transition arrangements are available on the JISCmail web site at
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/docs/transition.htm, but most of the changes
simply involve replacing the name "mailbase" with "JISCmail".
You are not required to do anything immediately as messages to lists and
commands to [log in to unmask] will be forwarded to JISCmail for at
least six months. Whenever this happens, you will receive a warning about
the change of name so that you will rapidly become aware of the change.
>From 27 November 2000, however, it would be a good idea if you changed to
the new address. You should send list messages to
[log in to unmask] and send commands to [log in to unmask]
The address of the list web page will change from
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/eye-movement/
to
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/eye-movement.html
so I would appreciate it anyone who maintains a link to the web page would
amend it accordingly. If you spot an out-of-date link, then by all means
let me know!
Apologies for the inconvenience involved in this change, but it is entirely
beyond my control. There are bound to be a few teething problems, but
things should pass reasonably smoothly.
Many thanks,
David
