Doctoral fellowship in sociology, political science or social anthropology.
At the Norwegian University of Technology and Science (NTNU), the Faculty
of social sciences and technology management's the Department for sociology
and political science or the Department of social anthropology, there is a
vacancy for a doctoral fellow for a period of maximum four years. The
position is connected to the faculty's doctoral programme. The follow will
be affiliated to one of the two Departments according to academic
background.
The fellow shall work in relation to questions regarding the culture and
social structure of Japan, preferably with a focus on matters related to
organization of production or managerial- or organizational patterns, or
matters related to the relations between Japan and Western countries. The
position is full time, where 75 percent of the position is allocated to the
fellow's own research and where 25 percent is allocated to relevant tasks.
Such tasks will be related to administration of the Japan-programme at NTNU
as well as taking part in teaching within this programme. The person who is
employed must have abilities regarding networking and cooperation.
Qualifications include completed higher education in sociology, political
science or social anthropology (the Norwegian degree of "Hovedfag"), or
other equivalent post-graduate education). The applicant must normally have
passed the post-graduate level with excellent marks or be able to document
an equivalent scholarly level through later research work and the
description of the proposed doctoral project.
NTNU is interested in increasing the ratio of women amongst its scientific
staff, and women are therefore especially encouraged to apply.
Salary will be on step 34 of the Norwegian state wage ladder, i.e.
approximately NOK 20,700 per month (approx. 2,500 EUR) before taxes.
The application must contain information about the applicant's education,
exams and previous experience. Verified copies of diplomas and letters of
recommendation must be enclosed.
Together with the application there must be included a description of the
research work which is planned. The description of the project must contain:
- explanation of the research question and methods,
- references to relevant theory within the field, so that the applicant
demonstrates knowledge of relevant research on the field,
- a detailed progression plan for the project.
Applicants must commit themselves to enrol in the University's doctoral
programme, and employment will not be able to become formalized before the
applicant is accepted for the studies for the degree of dr.polit. The
project description may be made the basis for considering entry to the
organized doctoral schooling at the Faculty. In the case the applicant has
not already been admitted to the Faculty's dr-polit.-programme or in the
case where the applicant has not already applied for acceptance into this
programme, such a separate application must accompany the application for
