The European Union Social Science Information Research Facility
(EUSSIRF, Florence) provides the opportunity and funding, for European
area researchers in the social sciences (law, political sciences,
history, economics, European studies &c.) to gain access to the
collections, resources and services of the EUI library.
Applicants must be a citizen of an EU or Associated State and working in
an EU state or an Associated State (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the
Republic of Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Latvia,
Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and
Slovenia.)
The current deadline for receipt of EUSSIRF (Florence) applications is
31 December 2000. Visitors selected in this round will be for the
period from April 2001 to April 2002. The application form may be
downloaded at the EUSSIRF web address (above). This should be returned
by post, with a CV and referee's supporting statement. (The EUI Library
postal address is printed below.)
Short-term research visits, usually lasting one month, will benefit
from:
A substantial financial contribution toward living expenses (up to 1400
Euros) plus a contribution to travel expenses;
Help with finding local accommodation;
Expert assistance in exploiting the EUI Library collections and
resources;
Training in new research technologies; and
Integration into the wider academic life of the EUI through affiliation
with the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies.

EUSSIRF is a Major Research Infrastructure within the EU Commission's
Fifth Framework Programme (DGXII), 'Improving Human Potential and the
Socio-economic Knowledge Base'. The aim of the IHP is to increase the
human resources available for research and technological development.
The Research Infrastructures part of this programme helps researchers
gain access to existing facilities by providing travel and subsistence
support for short-term visitors.
