I am interested in putting together a panel proposal for the 2002 Berkshire
Conference on the History of Women on women's organizations under
authoritarian governments. I am looking for other panel members. My research
is on the League of Women in Poland, Poland's primary women's organization
under communism. Focusing on the 1960s and 1970s, my paper will demonstrate
women's complex relationship to the government by examining how women
participated in, influenced, and transformed the communist political
structure, ideology, and policies, and how the Communist Party affected the
organization. If you are interested in participating, please contact me at

Seeking 1-2 papers for panel on women and work for the 2002 Berkshire
Conference on Women's History (in Connecticut, USA/June 2002).
Particularly looking for research on women and work in any local or
regional laborforce that relates the evidence to larger global
forces. Research related to the textile industry or electronics
industry (anywhere around the globe) would be especially
interesting. This is an excellent conference to attend, with all the
latest feminist research and very inexpensive room and board. Please
send an abstract and c.v. to Dr. Maura Doherty at swissoneline.ch
