RESEARCH FELLOWS: CHILDREN, TOYS AND COMPUTERS
Two Research Fellows are required for 18 months on a full-time basis to work
on an ESRC/EPSRC project funded by the PACCIT (People at the Centre of
Communication and Information Technology) Programme. One Research Fellow
will be based in the Institute of Education, University of Stirling and will
work with Dr Lydia Plowman. The other Research Fellow will be based in the
School of Cognitive & Computing Sciences, University of Sussex and will work
with Dr Rosemary Luckin. Both departments gained a '5' rating in the last
Research Assessment Exercise and provide excellent opportunities for
research.
'Exploring and Mapping Interactivity with Digital Toy Technology' is a
multi-disciplinary project that will involve synthesising perspectives from
education, human-computer interaction and psychology. Candidates should have
a higher degree, be skilled in data collection, analysis and presentation
and should preferably have experience in and enjoy working with young
children and families and/or with computers. The post at the University of
Stirling will involve fieldwork in children's homes and informal learning
environments; the post at the University of Sussex will involve controlled
usability studies.

Salaries will be within the RA1A scale for research staff (£16,775-£25,213
p.a.) dependent on qualifications and experience. The highest starting point
for appointment to the University of Stirling post will be point 8; for
appointment to the University of Sussex post it will be point 6. The posts
will start on 1 February 2001 or as soon as possible thereafter.
