14th Annual Meeting of the Society for Disability Studies
Proposal Forms (A, B, & C Below)


Type of presentation (check one):

1. ___ Single Paper Presentation (A single 15-minute presentation which
SDS will place with others on the topic. May have multiple authors.)
? Submit Forms A, B, and C.
? If you have co-authors, also submit Form B for each co-author.

2. ___ Organised Paper Session (A 1.5 hour block for an organised and
co-ordinated set of 3 or 4 15-minute papers by individuals with
discussion. Papers may have multiple authors. The Organiser should
Moderate the Session. The Session may have a designated Discussant who
also gets up to 15 minutes. A minimum of fifteen minutes should be
reserved for general discussion. The Organiser should submit all
materials for all session participants together in a group.)
? The Organiser should submit A, B, and C for each Paper.
? Also submit B for any Paper that has a co-author.
? The Organiser should submit an abstract C for the Session as a whole,
in addition to the Paper abstracts.
? Also submit B for all Organisers/Moderators and Discussants.


3. ___ An Organised Panel (A 1.5 hour block for presentation of 3-4
brief, 5-10 minute commentaries by individuals with extensive
discussion. The Organiser should Moderate the Panel. A minimum of thirty
minutes should be reserved for general discussion. The Organiser should
submit all materials for all Panel participants together in a group.)
? The Organiser should submit A and C for the whole Panel.
? The Organiser should also submit B for self and for ALL Panelists.


4.___ A Roundtable (1.5 hour discussion format with a Moderator and
possibly a Discussant, but with no formal presentations, seating is
available for up to 12 per Roundtable. The Organiser should Moderate the
Roundtable. A minimum of one hour should be reserved for general
discussion. The Organiser should submit all materials for all Roundtable
participants together in a group.)
? The Organiser should submit A and C for the whole Roundtable.
? The Organiser should also submit B for self and for ALL other planned
Discussants.




5. ___ Workshop (A 1.5 hour hands-on application of a specific program
or exercise. The Organiser should Moderate the Workshop. The Organiser
should submit all materials for all Workshop participants together in a
group.)
? The Organiser should submit A and C for the whole Workshop.
? The Workshop abstract should describe any needed special facilities or
materials.
? The Organiser should also submit B for self and for ALL other planned
Workshop Leaders.

6. ___ Performance/Event (A poetry reading, dance, video/film, or other
event. The Organiser should be the contact person for the
Performance/Event. The Organiser should submit all materials for all
Performance/Event participants together in a group.)

AND for each component, if any (e.g., each reading in a group reading).
? In the Abstract fully describe the type, style, and length of the
event.
? The Performance/Event Abstract should also describe any needed special
facilities or materials.

Form C. Abstract and Access Statement

Please attach an Abstract when sending your proposal.
(250-500 words) containing the following information:
? Explicit statement of the presentation’s thesis, research methodology,
findings, or significance.
? Description of content and structure of performance.
? Statement of how the submission relates to the theme: “Democracy,
Diversity, and Disability.” (if applicable)
? Description of audience participation, if any.
? Statement describing any specific facilities or materials needed for
the presentation(s) or performance(s).
? Each proposal must include a statement as to the means by which the
presentation(s) or performance(s) will be made ACCESSIBLE to all. For
example, hard copies of all papers should be available for distribution
in large print (17 point font or larger) and on disk and in Braille.
Audio or video information must be presented in both oral and visual
formats. Please avoid using discipline specific jargon; visual materials
such as overheads should be read out loud. Conference participants
should avoid using scented products that might be harmful to people with
chemical sensitivities. SDS will provide sign language interpretation,
amplification, and real time captioning upon request.

No individual may present more than one Paper or other significant
Event.
You may submit multiple proposals, but only one will be chosen.

All presenters must pre-register and pay for the for the Summer
Conference in the Spring of 2001.
