Use of a classification scheme or thesaurus in the Dublin Core subject element
works best if you have a community of websites which shares the scheme and a
search facility which can exploit it. There is no scheme which will suit all
users.

Subject: classification scheme
I'm trying to get my head around Dublin Core and am confused. Any help would
be great. In particular...
"Typically, a Subject will be expressed as keywords, key phrases or
classification codes that describe a topic of the resource. Recommended best
practice is to select a value from a controlled vocabulary or formal
classification scheme."
But what is this classification scheme? IS there a standard classification
scheme in use? I can't see how it works without it because in a sense that
seems like, er, the whole point.
