Kev
I thought you would spot this one! I am resisting the urge to state the
level of risk depends on whom your partner is... or even if they are not
your partner but somebody else's!
Seriously though this comes from Shah Ebrahim's session at the Melbourne
World Stroke Congress and relates to data from a cardiovascular study in
Caerphiily, Wales. Although the media have stuck on the sexual activity
angle I gather it is actually talking about the cardioprotective effect of
regular mild to moderate exercise. I would imagine that it is talking about
a reduction in relative risk of a coronary of cerebrovascular event and not
an absolute risk reduction, like most lifestyle and environmental studies
tend to report. This is an interesting yet controversial area and one that
physiotherapy and rehabilitation should be taking an active lead in. It
would be useful to see the data and look at the confidence intervals for the
effect;
Does anyone in the Caerphilly area or anyone who works with Dr Ebrahim at
Bristol have any insider knowledge? If so it would be good to share on the
list.
