Katy
Just while it crosses my mind, in Leicestershire the Burton on the Wolds
'well' (strictly a decorative stone 'feature' including lion's head spout at
the end of a short conduit piping the water from the well's original
location) has been restored in recent weeks as a 'millennium project'.
The spring at Blackfordby in the north-west of Leics has also been restored
since I was last there in 1989 (!) but whether this is a 'millennium
project' or not I'd need to check.
I have photos of Blackfordby before and after and will soon take 'after'
photos of Burton. If anyone on the list needs urgent information then
please contact me off-list.
If anyone on the list knows of any wells/springs in Leics and Rutland that
have been restored or substantially modified in the last *ten years* or so
then also please contact me, as I am in the final stages of preparing a
CD-ROM that will include (among other things!) a comprehensive illustrated
'catalogue' of wells and springs in Leics and Rutland.
Thanks
Bob
