HOLY WELL - MALVERN WELLS
The Holy Well at Malvern Wells is one of the most important surviving
artifacts of the rich water heritage of the region. The present building
dates from the 1830s and records go back to the 16th century. The site was
likely of importance in medieval times if not before.
Although restored in the 1970s the building is in a sorry state but has
recently come under new ownership. It is proposed that a total rennovation
programme is carried out, starting in a month or so. This will include the
provision of a water heritage centre on the ground floor alongside the
sacred spring which is freely available.
If you would like to get involved the SRF would love to hear from you. We
are forming a project team to plan the centre and we need expertise and
muscle to help get the show off the ground. Through the Malvern Spa
Association we have worked on the restoration of six celebrated spring sites
in the Malverns as well as initiating some new water features. This
programme overall is achieving considerable success and the Holy Well will
hopefully enable us to establish a permanent heritage and interpetation
centre.
This is all being achieved through enthusiasm, resourcefulness and
networking. Please come and get involved if you would like to link in with
the Holy Well project.
A date for your diaries is Friday 17th November when the Malvern Spa
Association will be holding its AGM. We will be talking about the Holy Well
project in more detail then as well as the other activities being pursued.
The AGM will be held in the evening in Great Malvern - venue still to be
determined. If you would like details drop me an email - come and meet the
gang!
