Oh, Andy, of course I agree with you about pastoral conventions. I've been
devoting much of my research and writing to discerning them, including
musical instruments and their significations. My question therefore came
from genuine curiosity and sincere sympathy, including Puttenham's sense of
"Plesant conueniencie with th'eare."
