Dear Colleagues
I have to tell you that it has taken me a further three sessions with the
computer specialists at my access provider to become reasonably confident
that I was rid of this pseudo-virus. It happened to be included in every
e-mail stored in the "message sent" section of my Ourlook Express".
One could detect its presence by getting a message that the ActiveX files
were unsafe and the page would not be safely reproduced. Then, by trying to
print such a message : one got a red message for "virus detected", with the
reference of a Temp file ; when ordering that the virus be either suppressed
or repaired, one got a further message, that the said file was impossible to
find ! Moreover, the print out was reduced to the four lines : "from, to,
snet (date), subject", the bulk of the message being lost.
I am unable to tell what exactly the computer specialist did (they click and
kick so fast !) but finaly, the virus being apparently confined in the "sent
files" and possibly in other stored files of Outlook Express, with the
exception of the Reception Box, we eliminated it by destroying all such
files, and redestroying these in the "Junk basket" (Corbeille in French).
I checked that newly sent e-ms do not behave that way, which is hopefully
evidence that the virus has been eradicated.
My apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
