I came directly into physiotherapy as a school leaver and, like many
others in my situation, feel like I need a short break to recuperate
before I continue with the course.
I am interested in relocating to the UK for a while, as my sister is
living in London currently and i will therefore have accomodation, and
I am able to obtain a 4 year working pass allowing me to work in any
field (unrestricted). I am hoping that some of you from the uk may be
able to help me prepare a little better for finding physio-related
work.
Over here in Australia, it is commonplace that a physio student may
work in a physiotherapy assistant role in private practice or the
public sector. I am curious as to whether physio assistants are as
common in britain as they are over here, and if so, what are my
chances as a physio student (having completed two years of
undergraduate study at curtin university) of obtaining a job as a PTA.
I have had a brief search for 'physiotherapy assistant' (+ synonyms)
on various job search sites (and agencies) but to no avail.
In addition to looking for work as a PTA, I am interested in
continuing my involvement with sports teams as a sports trainer. I
believe someone posted a message here a couple of weeks ago about the
national sports medicine institute. I have completed the level 1
sports trainers course accredited by Sports Medicine Australia, and
have worked with an Aussie Rules football team from April to
September. I am keen to continue working for a sports team when I
arrive in the UK (football seasons start around June i believe), and I
am wondering whether it would be better for me to complete my level 2
sports trainers here (in November), or if it would be better for me to
complete a similar course in the UK and be accredited by the NMSI. I
am also intersted in the 'students in sports care' (SISC) initiative,
if you are able to provide me with any further information than what
is available on the NSMI web-site.
If anyone is able to provide me with any information regarding any of
these things, please send me an email directly (i.e. not through the
list) to [log in to unmask]
Thankyou in advance for you assistance!
God bless,
Luke Harris,
2nd year PT student (Curtin).
