Can anyone help clarify and identify the following notice ? It is taken
from a watercolour of 1822 by John Hassell of a public house at Dorking,
Surrey. The picture shows a panel on the front with the following:
Pro Bono Publico
To those who cannot summ
thirst endure
Niblette elixir is a certain cure
In winter too [?some ~~~supply]
Which may be taken [?at his fireside]
But if the ~~~~
[?Remembrance only may be had]
The parts in brackets are barely legible and ~~~ indicates illegible
parts. Even the rest is only just readable. Considering the original
watercolour of this advert is about 20x15 mm it is amazing that any of it
can be read.
