e-Marc Seminar
Wolfson Suite
Main Library
Edinburgh University
Wednesday 18 Oct 2000
14.00-16.30
The need to provide integrated and controlled bibliographic access to
electronic resources is recognised throughout the information community and
there are many attempts underway to meet this challenge. System suppliers
are developing Web-based interfaces to achieve the dream but the potential
that this technology offers can only be realised by developing coherent
practices within the profession. This seminar will describe the use of
Marc in cataloguing electronic resources and the issues involved. The
potential for co-operative cataloguing will be examined, including a
description of OCLC's CORC project. The implications of Dublin Core and
Marc harmonisation will also be addressed.
Speakers will include John MacColl and Zena Mulligan of Edinburgh
University Library, talking about the OCLC CORC project, and Paul Cunnea,
Bibliographic Services Librarian at Napier University Learning Information
Services and author of Napier's e-cataloguing guidelines
