Dear Colleagues:
For those of you interested in promoting graduate study in Central and
Eastern Europe, please be advised that effective 2001/2002, Central European
University (CEU) is extending its fellowship program to students worldwide.
Student applications for admission are due in early January 2001.
For full information, please refer to the CEU website: www.ceu.hu
(Admissions and Financial Aid).
CEU is chartered in the United States by the Board of Regents of the
University of the State of New York, and is Candidate for Accreditation by
the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of
Colleges and Schools*. Its main teaching site is located in Budapest,
Hungary. The CEU programs in Sociology are based in Warsaw, Poland.
Central European University (CEU) is an internationally recognized
institution of post-graduate education in social sciences and humanities. It
seeks to contribute to the development of open societies in Central and
Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union by promoting a system of
education in which ideas are creatively, critically, and comparatively
examined. CEU serves as an advanced center of research and policy analysis
and facilitates academic dialogue while preparing its graduates to serve as
the region's next generation of leaders and scholars.
The CEU Fellowship Program has been a direct means of supporting the
university's mission to develop and sustain open societies, democracy, rule
of law, free markets, tolerance, and political and cultural pluralism in the
region by sponsoring researchers, intellectuals, and activists committed to
these values. However, it has also become clear over the last decade that
Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union are not the only
parts of the world experiencing the development of more open societies. In
response to this spreading democratization, from the 2001/2002 academic year
the university will continue to focus on individuals and organizations in
the region while extending the CEU Fellowship Program worldwide, with
particular emphasis on students in emerging democracies.
