I understand that Nike placed advertisements that
are offensive to people with a physical disability
into publications that will be seen by many people
worldwide. I also understand that these ads. are
to be wirhdrawn from magazines that have not already
printed them, and Nike have made apologies
for any offense caused. This is good news.
What would be even better news is that Nike is to
pay something towards undoing the damage done by
the ads already in print. I am sure that you will be
receiving many excellent suggestions as to what
and how to pay and to whom.
My suggestion is a promotion of several paraolympic
athletes might be a useful start. Then a global
campaign of ads along the lines of the Magic Johnson
advertisements for a well known shoe manufacturer
(yes,we have even seen these ads. in New
Zealand!). This would put your verbal sorry where it
is best placed, into action rather than into words.
And yes, if you were to do something
like this I would change from my well known
brand of running shoes to the
product you are selling!!!!
