R&D Department Human Factors Team Leader
The Sony Broadcast & Professional Europe R&D Department is involved with
work across the entire spectrum of Broadcast industry activities, from
acquisition through post-production to transmission
We are developing our Human Factors expertise in all aspects of system
design and analysis. Currently, the group is involved in researching
workflow within post-production to assess the application of metadata
technology to alternative design solutions. This research will expand to
the design and evaluation of metadata technology in the interactive work
system. The work of the Human Factors group directly influences research
projects undertaken at Sony BPE R&D. Emphasis is on innovative and creative
approach within a structured and methodological framework
Principal responsibilities include:
Design and conduct of usability experiments to analyse workflow, assess
prototype design and identify areas for future research
Use of Task Analysis methods to identify usability requirements and
specification
Design of information representation, (using storyboarding, prototyping
Promotion of Sony R&D Human Factors within the department, organization and
to external organizations, (scope to publish and present work to an
international audience)
Key Skills
At least 4 years experience of applying human factors discipline in a
research/development environment
Experience of incorporating Human Factors knowledge within the design
process and awareness of issues for consideration when conducting usability
evaluations in a practical setting
The ability to communicate all aspects of Human Factors expertise in both
oral and written formats
The ability to work across more than one project
Knowledge, or willingness to develop knowledge of at least one of the
following software languages: Java or Visual Basic
Knowledge of leading edge research within Human Factors, and the ability to
apply in a practical setting
Experience of Team Leadership or proven supporting experience
Additional Skills
Candidates with the following skills would be at an advantage:
§ Experience of multi-media user interface design solutions in either the
Broadcast domain or Internet environment
Education
§ 2nd degree in Human Factors / Human Computer Interaction
§ Good first degree in Psychology or Computer Science
