Call for Participation in the WAP Workshop
Design and Usability Evaluations of WAP-Enabled Web sites and Mobile
Internet Devices
at OZCHI 2000,
Sydney, Australia, 4-8 December, 2000

The aim of this one-day Workshop is to explore the design and usability
issues of WAP-enabled Web sites and mobile Internet devices. The workshop
will focus on the following issues:
(a) Design and usability guidelines for the design of WAP-enabled Web site.
(b) Guidelines for the User Interface Design of WAP-enabled mobile Internet
devices by exploring the card and deck metaphor (www.wapforum.org) being
used for designing such devices.
(c) Adapting Usability Evaluation Techniques used for non-mobile
applications for conducting usability tests of WAP-enabled Web sites and
mobile Internet devices.
This Workshop will bring together HCI researchers, WAP-application
developers, and designers and usability professionals who are involved in
the design and development of Web sites and mobile communication devices.
The workshop date is Tuesday 5 December 2000. Cost of participation is $120
(+ GST $12).
Submission instructions: By 16 October, please submit a 2-page position
statement (in electronic format) outlining your interests, contact
information, brief biography, and views regarding the goals of the workshop,

The technical outline of the Workshop and Extended Abstract are available on
the Workshop's Web site: http://mcs.open.ac.uk/ozchi-2000/
The Workshop will be limited to 24 participants. Participants will be
selected based on their submissions. Authors of selected papers will be
expected to present their work at the workshop. All the submissions will be
made available on the Workshop's Web site and will also be distributed to
the participants of the workshop. The results of the discussions and group
activities during the workshop will be presented as a Poster for the OZCHI
Conference and summarised as a short paper for the interested attendees of
the Conference. It is hoped that the results will be submitted as a paper to
the Springer-Verlag Journal - Personal Technologies.
