I wonder if anyone could help me understand about my father back problem.
He was a very strong & fit man walked about 15 miles per day ex army PT
instructor.
In 1989 he suffered a disc problem, which caused him excruciating pain, the
doctor said that the disc (2nd & 3rd lumber vertebra) had slipped into the
spine and would require an operation. After the operation me farther had no
feeling below his knees (he presumed it was because he had just had a back
operation and things would soon get better) he was still discharged from the
hospital and told to rest, nothing has changed he cannot feel pin pricks
anywhere below the knee and his feet just flop to the floor as he cannot
move them, since then he has had a multitude of tests and this week, 11
years on they have said there is nothing they can do for him as he has
“Hereditary motor sensory neuropathy type 1” a genetic disorder, which is
the cause of his problem.
What I was wanting to ask is, is it possible for this disorder to happen
overnight.
It was suggested once but never put in the report, the operation was the
cause of the problem and the nerve became trapped stopping the blood flow to
the root.
He is looking for any special advice, exercise, or any other solution, which
may help him, or any special centre to manage it. I would appreciate any
comment or offering any special advice in this respect.
Thanks,
Rob.
