If ICP is raised then it is likely that normal cerbral autoregulation
will be lost. This means that CPP (cerebral perfusion pressure) becomes
directly related to systemic mean arterial blood pressure:
CPP=MABP-ICP
The other thing you have to consider is the pressure-volume response.
Normally if tissue volume beings to increase CSF absorbtion also
increases and along with changes in the cerebral venous system which
reduces blood volume this is managed so that ICP does not increase.
However, this has a limited ability to deal with increasing volumes and
oedema post TBI usually goes beyond the volume that can be coped with -
thus giving the problem of raised ICP.
