To all:
Over the last 2 months, I have had support, questions, and criticism on the
messages I have written, and today, I am going to settle it once and for
all.
As everybody knows, I am a big advocate of Travell and Simons trigger
points, and the iliopsoas dysfunction hypothesis. When I first mentioned
this on the mailbase, I thought that I'd find someone else who also
practiced trigger points so that I could ask others questions. I am glad I
got a lot of questions because it opened my practice to criticism, and made
me search for more answers. However, at the same time, I got negative
criticism from people who considered what I did to be "radical" and lacking
evidence. The other day, I also wanted to ask more about nutrition and zinc
specifically, but it seems that people weren't too interested, and found the
idea "out of the field of Physiotherapy."
However, when I talked to others about cranial-sacral therapy and
acupuncture, it turns out that people tend to practice these and support
these techniques. Tell me if I am wrong, but the above techniques also lack
evidence. To be honest, it is very difficult to do research on Physiotherapy
techniques because we do not use a single technique. All I am saying is that
we should be more open minded to new techniques, whilst examining the
efficacy and effectiveness of the techniques that we use. There is no one
way of treating a patient, because every patient is different - therefore,
there is no one treatment that will work for a specific condition.
Therefore, if you find Travell and Simon, Iliopsoas, and the nutritional
field "radical" ideas, then question it, but don't dismiss it. The only way
to learn about these is through yourself - nobody can convince you but
yourself.
I'd like to finish off by 2 quotes that sum up what I say:
"It is good to know what a man is, and also what the world takes him for.
But you do not understand him until you have learnt how he understands
himself."
"There is one thing stronger than all the armies of the world... that is an
idea whose time has come..."

PS- I will be setting up a website that will outline what I practice,
including 'conventional' such as maitland, mulligans, and mckenzie and
'radical' such as iliopsoas, trigger points, nutrition, and other therapies.
Please feel free to add or comment on what else I may be able to put in my
site to make it more interesting and interactive.
