Two points of Stephen's message refer at least in part to TV documentaries
that have been shown in the UK over the past couple of years. I'm not sure
if you (John) are disturbed by Stephen's mere mention of 'plastic surgery
for people with Down's syndrome', as you prefer it not to be mentioned, or
are unaware of the issue. Certainly there are surgeons who offer this
'treatment' and people who take it up (usually parents 'on behalf of'
children of course), as this docu explored. The Macintyre Undercover
programme he's referring to showed an investigative journalist who took
employment in a 'residential care home' for people with learning
disabilties, the resulting programme revealed some serious and routine
abuses.
Good luck with your study, Stephen.
