CALL FOR PAPERS
6th Postgraduate Education Discussion Group Conference
'Sink or Swim? Understanding the research process'
Keele University
Saturday 25th November 2000
****************************************************************************
In May 1995, a group of postgraduate research students within
the Education Department at Keele University formed a Discussion Group
to act as a support network. As part of our research and development
as postgraduates we would like to hold a conference on Saturday 25th
November 2000. This is our sixth conference and follows on from the
very successful, 'Read all about it: literature reviews in the research
process', sponsored by the Open University Press and held at Keele in
November 1999 when over 50 students met to present and listen to each
other's work. The theme of this conference is understanding different
aspects of the research process.
Therefore papers should focus on generic issues to do with how
we create and develop general narratives, methodology and data analysis.
You may wish to consider how and why you may have applied a particular
social theoretical perspective (e.g. liberalism, feminism, Marxism,
pluralism, post-modernism etc ...) within the research process. The
conference is focused at postgraduate students working within the social
sciences. We expect papers to reflect a range of experiences from those who
are just beginning reading literature, to those who are considering
publishing their work.

If you are interested in coming to the conference then please
E Mail or surface mail me and I can send you further details and directions
closer to the time of the conference. If you are interested in giving a
paper would you please E Mail or surface mail me with personal details, a
title and abstract (500 words) of the proposed paper by Friday, October 20th
2000. The final paper should be between 2,500 - 3,000 words and details about
the presentation requirements will be sent if your paper is accepted.
