Dear Charles
There is an interesting - if brief - analysis of 'Without Benefit of Clergy'
in JMS Tompkins' excellent study - 'The Art of Rudyard Kipling', long out of
print but to be found in libraries. There is also a piece on the story by
Jeffrey Meyers in the Kipling
Journal of December 1969, which is to be found in the Kipling Library at
City University in London. If you wish to pursue this, please let me know.
I am, though, copying your note to our Kipling Mailbase to see if any
colleagues come up with any further ideas.
All good wishes, John Radcliffe, Electronic Editor, the Kipling Society
