QSR is delighted to announce the latest software in the NUD*IST
line. Its name is N5!
NUD*IST rev 5 is a completely new version of the N4 software. N5
will be available as a fully functional demo with tutorials on the QSR
website next week. Orders are being taken now for product shipment in
October.
Anyone purchasing N4 from August 1st has the option of a free
upgrade to N5 after it ships.
**************************
QSR has a new website: www.qsrinternational.com. It has many more
resources for researchers, demos for all three QSR software products (from
next week) plus teaching handbooks, price lists and descriptions. You can
now purchase directly from our website or through our distributor
Sage/Scolari.
Trainers around the world are already offering training in N5: check
the website in coming weeks for details of events. Tom Richards and I are
teaching N5 and NVivo in five European countries Sept-October - details of
events in the previous post.
At the CAQDAS day on Sept 29th we'll discuss the methodological
positioning of N5 and NVivo, and at the IOE conference 29-30th we'll show
and doubtless critically debate it.
**************************
Now the N5 headlines:
N5 is a new full upgrade from NUD*IST rev4 (N4), and both will
upgrade to NVivo. Full details are on the website of N5's functions, and the
ways of choosing between N5 and NVivo. It has a new personality, different
from NVivo's. Designed as a very direct and responsive code-based
theorizer, with new ways of category creation and exploration, it has a new
swift interface, and major changes. These include document import (automatic
formatting of plain text files; or import directly from clipboard any files,
including web texts, email etc.); coding (coding bar including In-Vivo
coding and new Quick Coder), handling of memos (which can become documents)
and searching (new access and scoping of searches).
N5 will be released with all-new documentation. Like NVivo it ships
with two books - "Using N5 in Qualitative Research" and a Reference Guide,
tightly integrated with very detailed online help. There are new tutorials,
including, for those upgrading from N4, a detailed tutorial on what's new.
Currently N5 is only available in a PC version. The release of a Mac
version is under review, pending the anticipated release of OSX in the near
future.
***************************
And the N4 headlines:
N4 is now released as a low-priced "N4Classic" edition with an even
lower student price.
This is the same leading software as NUD*IST4, with a new 10-step
mini-manual. The full manuals for N4 and Merge are provided online.
***************************
And the NVivo headlines?
The NVivo team have not been idle! On the website now is the free
upgrade to NVivo 1.2. www.qsrinternational.com. We'll talk more on the
QSR-Forum next week about this upgrade and the advantages of downloading it
now.
***************************
With our thanks to all the users round the world who have
contributed ideas and feedback on software and documentation - and warmest
wishes from us all@QSR,
cheers
Lyn
