Hi:

My attention has just been drawn to a very interesting article about
Colossus that appeared in the (UK) Daily Telegraph. An on line
version can be found at the following (very long) URL:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk:80/et?ac=003491733042247&rtmo=0ie2ibKq&atmo=tttttttd&pg=/et/00/9/7/ecfcol07.html

The first few lines of text are attached below.

Cheers

Brian

Colossal code of silence broken

The most important computer upgrade in history, one that enabled the Allies
to "read the mind of Adolf Hitler'' before D-Day, is about to be revealed in
detail after half a century of secrecy.
This month, the Government Communications Headquarters at Cheltenham
(GCHQ) will release to the Public Record Office, Kew, a 500-page technical
report on Colossus, the forerunner of the postwar digital computer and the
first practical application of of large-scale, program controlled computing.
Many are familiar with Colossus but the report also contains the
specifications for "Colossus II", an upgraded machine which began operation
on June 1, 1944.
