Thanks for your suggestions everyone. I will be chasing them up over
the next weeks and months.
Even my preliminary reading suggests that a focus on Bowlby's
attachment theory alone would be a bit narrow. Perhaps a broader look
at attitudes towards the 'naturalness' and 'biologicalness' of
bonding/attachment amongst 'ultra social constructivist historians'
(if such a creature exists!) would be more fruitful. If anyone can
recomment books or articles critiquing or supporting social
constructivism and sociobiological explanations in this area that
would be helpful.
