** Dear Luke, is the method you have used not the kinesiotaping method
and you have taped with Kinesiotape. Take a look at
http://www.kinesiotaping.com
marco, as i said, i've simply be shown this technique and have only
applied and revised it, so i'm not sure of its origin. however, taking
a brief glance at the web-site, i don't believe this is the same
thing, nor based on the same principles.
i've had a couple of people asking for pictures/photos of this
technique, and for the same reason i'm not aware of its origin, i
don't have any. i will see if the player i use it on will mind be
doing it again on thursday night (even though he no longer suffers
from shin splints) and take some pics. i might also try my hand a
drawing!
anyways, back to kinesio taping...
"Kinesio Taping is a technique based on the body's own natural healing
process. This Kinesio Taping exhibits its efficacy through the
activation of neurological and circulatory systems."
"Using an elastic tape, it was discovered that muscles and other
tissues could be helped by outside assistance. Employment of Kinesio
Taping creates a totally new approach to treating nerves, muscles, and
organs."
the technique i use involves the application of standard rigid tape,
and (through my own reasoning) has a rationale with a different (and
more mechanical) basis.
pain is elicited by passive stretch. therefore, by placing the foot in
the desired position (eg. inversion/supination for tib post) before
applying the final strips of tape (the ones from the origin of the
muscle down to the low-dye taping) means that there is more resistance
to eversion/pronation applied by the tape (as opposed to the irritable
muscle), and therefore reducing the severity of pain (often to nil
pain).
does anyone have any uncertainties about this logic? i'm open to any
suggestions (either expanding further, or in opposition to my
reasoning) because it seems very simple...
my concern is that holding the foot into eversion or inversion could
be causing problems further down the feet when running. any thoughts?
