Being a librarian, I decided to see if there was a book about the Pink 'un that might settle the question we've been discussing. The Dartmouth College Library catalog lists the following book:
Author: Booth, J. B. (John Bennion), b. 1880.
Title: A "Pink 'un" remembers, by J. B. Booth ... With a foreword by
C. B. Cochran.
Collation: xx, 286 p. front., illus. (incl. facsims.) plates, ports. 23 cm.
Imprint: London, T. W. Laurie, ltd. [1937]
Notes: "First published 1937."
Type: Book
Language: eng
Subjects: Sporting times.
London (England) -- Social life and customs.
Theater -- England -- London.
Horse racing -- Great Britain.
Sports -- Great Britain.
LCCN: 39005682
Location: Storage G45/B644p
The subject headings supplied by the catalogers suggest that the Pink 'un is indeed the Sporting Times, a paper devoted primarily to horse racing.
