I have been asked by someone living at Winewell, south of Nairn,
Inverness, what significance he should attach to the name (earliest
mention 1826).
I have no examples in my (admittedly incomplete) list of English
well-names. He has one or two other Scottish examples, I believe.
The water at Winewell is reputed to be very pure.
My enquirer has also been told that there is "a man in Glasgow" working
on healing/holy wells. Can we identify who this might be ?
Thanks for your help.
