It isn't often that I personally recommend a workshop put forward for
mailing on this mailinglist, but as I have seen a lot of Martin Oliver's
work, I want to make an exception for this one:
ALT-C Workshop: Is there a theoretical basis for Learning Technology?
September 13th, p.m.
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/~uczamao/theory/
*** Call for participation ***
The decision to focus on practice at this year's ALT-C means that theory
has been left off of the agenda for discussion. This is arguably a
dangerous oversight, particularly in a field that is still developing its
own credibility and distinctive research base. This workshop has been
proposed as a way of redressing this imbalance.
The workshop will provide a forum for debate that will draw together
isolated theoretical developments in Learning Technology, allowing this
under-represented area of research to be advanced. Its focus will be the
identification of relevant theory, and its relationship with practice. The
workshop will involve group discussion, "problem solving" activities that
relate theory to practical situations and the development of an agenda for
further research in this area.
The workshop is open to all; however, numbers will be limited to 20.
Participants will be expected to produce a two-page positional paper
(example papers are available from the workshop web site), and there will
be a £15 fee to cover the cost of refreshments etc. Places will be assigned
on a first come, first served basis, subject to acceptance of a positional
paper.
To register for the workshop, send your contact information and positional
paper to Martin Oliver. Electronic submission is preferred.
