Stewart,
I think you're asking the wrong question of your practice. As Herb points
out, there is ample evidence that interventions "work" in certain realms of
practice. But, in my opinion, waiting for outcomes research to justify my
practice would create exactly the feeling you describe.
Ask yourself, "Does what I'm doing make sense?" Of course, answering this
in the affirmative would imply that your knowledge of the materials of the
body and their underlying behaviors was accurate. That's what science and
its study is for. We need to keep in mind that human beings can behave in
unexpected ways, and that handling that is what separates the novice from
the expert clinician.
