As you probably know, The National Sports Medicine Institute (NSMI) is a
registered charity that, amongst other services, provides programmes of
postgraduate education in sport and exercise medicine for healthcare
professionals. The medical education programme is run in partnership with
another charity, The British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine.
I am contacting you to highlight one of our forthcoming meetings. We are
holding a CURRENT CONCEPTS IN SPORT AND EXERCISE MEDICINE MEETING on
Tendinopathies on 8 - 9 December 2000 at Churchill College, Cambridge (
www.chu.cam.ac.uk). This is a meeting aimed at Sports Medicine and
Musculoskeletal Specialists, Diplomates and Post MSc Practitioners. The
meeting will have three sessions, on tendon science, the achilles and the
rotator cuff. Recent research in the area of tendon injuries and science
will be discussed. The meeting will be Co-Chaired by Mr Graham Holloway,
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Dr Cathy Speed, Director of the Cambridge
Sports and Exercise Medicine Unit. Presenters include Dr Tomas Movin an
Orthopaedic Surgeon, active in Sports Medicine in Scandinavia and based in
Stockholm. Dr Movin has a strong background in scientific research of
tendinopathies, particularly the achilles tendon and has pioneered the
technique of percutaneous needle biospy of achilles tendons at the
Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. The meeting faculty also includes Dr
Philip Bearcroft, Mr Roger Hackney, Mr Glenn Hunter and Dr Graham Riley.
